"I have lived in Ogmore by Sea for 38 years and most of my happiest times were spent in the Sea Lawns Hotel. For 20 years it was the entertainment hotspot of the Heritage Coast, and one had to be queuing on the lawns at 5pm at the weekend to ensure a seat in the pub, for what was a superb evening. Wonderful, wonderful times.

"During the 32 years that we have lived in Ogmore By Sea, the Sea Lawns has played a rich and vital role in our lives. Until only very recently people of the village have shared countless special times as a close and connected community within its walls. Nearly all of us have celebrated weddings, birthdays and anniversaries there and have benefited over the years from the company of friends and neighbours in a convivial atmosphere. We fondly remember our street party held there for the Silver Jubilee in 1977, the many barbecues and dances on the lawns, the marquees, the Friday night sing alongs, amateur dramatic evenings, Christmas parties for both children and adults, fancy dress evenings, bonfires, office parties, local PTA functions, fund raisers, choir evenings etc. Importantly, it has also been a place for newcomers to the village to get to meet and know the locals and to feel part of the community.#
It is not only the people of Ogmore By Sea who have long appreciated the Sea Lawns. People from Bridgend & District and further afield have enjoyed the Sea Lawns' wonderful and very special position on the Heritage Coast. It has been the stopping off point for a large vintage car rally every year and generations of coastal path walkers and visitors to the area have enjoyed watching the sun set on Tusker rock from the Sea Lawns gardens. Many others will remember the legendary Sunday evenings with Colonel Potts in the Channel Bar.
The Sea Lawns is unique and absolutely irreplaceable. It is an essential part of the character of Ogmore by Sea, has occupied its position for 160 years and is a place where our community life has been nurtured and sustained. If we lose the Sea Lawns, Ogmore By Sea will never have another village inn and will be a different, more isolated place entirely. It is a small seaside hamlet community on a so-called heritage coast, not a dockland re-development area. We need to be more vigilant and pro-active in future if any vestige of our village character is to be saved. Having lived here for 32 years we can vouch that we have already lost far too much, and received absolutely nothing in return!!."
As this picture shows the Sea Lawns has been an important part of Ogmore by Sea for many years!
